Our Mission
Advance innovative, evidence-based solutions that build community resilience against chronic disease and extreme weather.
Our Work
Our theory of change emphasizes a virtuous cycle of community-centered Research → Education → Action to foster evidence-based solutions.
Research
Examples of our scholarly work include:
-
Iyer A, Bookstein A, Kim G, Po J. Community-based solutions for chronic disease management during natural disasters: A systematic review. PLOS Global Public Health. 2025;5(8):e0004997-e0004997. doi: https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pgph.0004997

We are continuously building and sharing evidence to better serve our community and shift research paradigms toward community-based participatory approaches.

Education
-
ARCH Scholars Program: We mentor and train youth to lead community interventions benefitting health and the environment. Sessions are grounded in current environmental health research and project-based learning to support youth as they develop their own solutions, culminating in over $12,000 re-invested into the community through an NIEHS-funded grant.
-
Multilingual Workshops: We provide interactive workshops that equip communities with practical tools to protect their health before, during and after extreme weather events. We recognize that major language barriers exist in disaster preparedness education and are always working to expand the number of languages available.

Action
-
Community Climate Adaptation Program: We provide mutual aid and educational resources to mitigate the health risks of extreme weather, including our work supporting:
-
Cancer patients in the aftermath of the Eaton & Palisades Fires
-
People experiencing homelessness during heatwaves
-
-
Umeya Street Medicine Clinic: We co-founded a monthly clinic providing preventive care, harm reduction and mutual aid at a supportive housing site in Skid Row. This collaboration delivers frontline prevention and timely resources to those most vulnerable to extreme weather and chronic disease.

-
Social Resources Database (LASRP): We developed a free web-based tool to help providers quickly identify + provide tailored resources to patients based on audience, language and location. We are currently working with volunteers at Georgia Tech to use AI to expand the resources and languages offered.

Patient Care Fund: We are building a fund to defray costs for patients with chronic diseases who have unmet medical needs and do not qualify for government assistance. In Thanksgiving 2025, we donated food and transportation gift cards to the ACT & Alexis Project (LGBTQ+) clinics, which serve high risk youth with chronic medical illnesses transitioning into adult care.
